The Dances of Universal Peace
These dances invoke all traditions and honors all wisdom paths. We will be singing and dancing
and embodying these moving Prayers. We move around the circle, sometimes from partner to
partner, allowing our thoughts to fall away as we experience the Divine in each other and
ourselves.
Murshid Sam, in the 1960's, brought forward the Dances, to awaken the hearts and minds of his
Sufi students and create an ecstatic experience of unity. He was influenced by his dance teacher
Ruth St. Dennis and his Sufi Teacher, Hazrat Inayat Khan who brought Sufism to the west in
1914.
Dance of the Divine Feminine — Invoking “The Goddess Tara”
The tantric Buddhist practices that we will work with, invoking the Divine Goddess Tara, who is
the great Mother of Wisdom and Compassion. This practice is composed of various rituals,
prayers, mantras and meditations. This Green Tara ritual is a moving meditation where we
embody Tara’s qualities and tap into our own divine feminine beauty. We will be invoking the 21
praises of Tara and dancing her qualities. This offering is for both men and women.
